Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office offers a free “Home Security Inspection" to residents within the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. Crime Prevention volunteers will use a detailed checklist to perform an inspection and provide suggestions to assist you with improving your security.

Statistics show that a high number of residential burglaries occur through unlocked doors and windows. And, with too much frequency, items such as tools, bikes, BBQs, lawn mowers, cell phones, laptops and the like are often stolen because they are left in plain sight in an open garage, unlocked car in the driveway or in a parking lot.

Simple preventative steps, such as locking your home’s doors & windows, using window safety latches, and putting valuables in the trunk of your car before arriving at your destination will help to deter crime.
