Written Examination

The written examination for deputy sheriff trainee and correctional officer is given daily.  All other job classifications are subject to open recruitment and filing periods. Contact the Personnel Department to determine the status of a specific job classification.

Deputy sheriff trainee and correctional officer applicants may take the written examination Monday thru Friday at 1: 30 p.m. No appointment is necessary to take the examination.  

***Recent P.O.S.T. exam scores may be accepted by the personnel department. You may submit your T-scores to county personnel for review. ***

The examination is administered at the Personnel Department at 701 Ocean Street Room 310 Santa Cruz CA. 95060.

Applicants must submit a completed employment application to the Personnel Department receptionist and show photo identification before taking the examination.

The written examination is the Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery, developed and validated by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. The examination measures reading and writing abilities in English. Allow 3 hours to take the examination.

The results of the written examination will determine placement on the eligibility list.

Allow ample time for parking. Parking regulations are enforced at the County Government Center. A parking permit may be purchased on the first floor of the Government Center at the Information Booth.
