Psychological Examination

Deputy sheriff, Correctional officer, and Security Officer candidates must pass a pre-employment psychological examination to determine if the candidate is suitable for the position.

There are three basic objectives of psychological screening for public safety positions:

  1. Screen out the emotionally unstable applicants.

  2. Screen out the emotionally unsuitable applicants.

  3. Identify the positive psychological traits and characteristics that are associated with successful performance of essential job functions of the position.

A licensed psychologist who has specialized in providing a variety of services to the public safety community conducts the psychological examination.
