Physical Abilities Test

Correctional officer and deputy sheriff trainee applicants who pass the written examination are scheduled to participate in the physical abilities test.  Applicants will receive written notice in the mail with specific instructions concerning the date and time of the test.

Applicants must read and sign a waiver releasing the Sheriff's Office of liability and show photo identification before taking the test. Applicants should wear clothing and shoes appropriate for the abilities test.

The physical abilities test is pass/fail and consists of the following:

  1. Run 220 yards in 1 minute or less.

  2. Drag a 165 pound dummy 60 feet in 1 minute or less.

  3. Climb a 6 foot wall in 1 minute or less (deputy sheriff trainee applicants only).

Following the successful completion of the physical abilities test applicants will complete a personal history questionnaire and participate in applicant screening. There is no need for a change of clothing after the completion of the physical ability test.

Allow 3 hours for the physical abilities test and applicant screening process.
