Deputy Sheriff Lateral Applicants

Lateral transfer is only for those applicants who possess a basic law enforcement certificate awarded by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, who are currently employed in a California County Sheriff's Office as a deputy sheriff or City Police Department as a police officer with at least one year of continuous service as a peace officer with general law enforcement duties. Lateral applicants must be employed in good standing.  A COPY OF YOUR CALIFORNIA BASIC POST CERTIFICATE MUST BE SUBMITTED ALONG WITH YOUR COMPLETED APPLICATION.

When a completed application is accepted by the Personnel Department verification of the applicant's employment status will be confirmed. The applicant will then be placed on the eligibility list.

Lateral transfer applicants are not required to take the written examination. Lateral transfer applicants are subject to all other phases of the testing, selection, and hiring process.

Advanced step pay status will be determined based on experience.  
The current salary range for Deputy Sheriff (lateral) is $5,621.20 - $7,141.33 /monthly.
