Community Service Officer

Community Service Officers are uniformed, non-sworn employees who provide a variety of public relations, technical, clerical and enforcement related functions. Assignments include non-emergency call response and reports, applicant fingerprinting, and the maintenance and disbursement of safety equipment to Sheriff's Office employees.
Currently CSO's work at the main office downtown Santa Cruz or out of the Felton Service Center. Community Service Officers participate in a Community service officer academy within 6 months of appointment.

Opportunities for advancement within the Sheriff's Office include correctional officer or deputy sheriff trainee.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older at time of appointment.

  2. Possession of a valid California class C driver's license at time of appointment.

  3. Graduation from high school or a satisfactory score on a GED exam or have attained a degree from an accredited college or university AND experience equivalent to completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university in criminal justice or related field OR two years of experience which demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities.

  4. The ability to pass a full background investigation.

  5. U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.

Disqualifying Factors

  1. The commission of any felony involving any federal or state statute.

  2. The commission of a misdemeanor amounting to conduct which would reflect adversely on the candidate's ability to perform as a Community Service Officer within the past three years.

  3. Classification as a negligent operator under the Department of Motor Vehicle's "point count".

  4. Any pattern within the past two years of non-payment of debts which resulted in collection action against the candidate.

  5. Any incorrect representation or deletion of fact material on a county application, questionnaire, or form.

  6. Any verbal misrepresentation or deletion of fact material to background investigation.

Salary

$3,679 to 4,643/monthly
