Steven D. Robbins

Steve Robbins is a native of San Francisco, CA., and has been a resident of Santa Cruz County for over twenty-six years. Steve graduated from San Jose State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice and earned his Juris Doctor degree from San Francisco Law School. He became a member of the State Bar of California and licensed to practice law in 1977.
Steve’s
interest in law enforcement began as a Police Cadet for San Francisco Police
Department.
Steve joined the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office in 1978 and attended the
Police Academy at Gavilan College. During his career, he worked a variety of
assignments and spent many years as a detective, including working undercover in
the narcotics unit for 5 ½ years. He promoted through the ranks and eventually
became a Chief Deputy in the Detention Bureau and was later assigned to the
Field Operations Bureau. Steve obtained a
Lifetime California Community College Teaching Credential in Police Science and
taught at the Gavilan Police Academy for four years.
Under former Sheriff Tracy, Steve started the Community Policing Division and supervised the implementation of four Sheriff’s Community Service Centers and the Sheriff’s Volunteer program. The program became instantly popular with the various communities. Steve was appointed “Sheriff- Coroner” by the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors in January, 2005, upon Sheriff Tracy’s retirement.
