(Updated 3/11/08)
South County Area:
A BIG THANK YOU to Deputy
Carole Batin
for her years of service to the SAL program. She was recently recognized
at a SAL Board Meeting for the lives she touched and the difference she made
while active in SAL. Carole was awarded a certificate signed by the Sheriff.
Thanks again Carole!
If you are interested in CERT
training (Community Emergency Response Team), please contact
Sgt. Swannack at 763-4420. Sgt. Swannack will host the training (including
first aid training) for groups of 10 or more. The free training will
provide you with tools to help take care of yourself, your family, and your
neighbors. Neighborhood Watch is not just about crime - it is about getting
involved and caring for your community on many levels!
San Lorenzo Valley Area:
We are pleased to welcome three new members to
the SLV Sheriff's Center: New volunteers Penny Alvey and Bobbee Myers Rigby;
both bring a wealth of life experience and enthusiasm to our staff. The third
member is the official SLV Sheriff's Center Greeter, Lola Pavlina. Lola was
rescued by the SPCA in Watsonville and "adopted" our volunteer, Carol
Pavalina. Lola has obtained the proper Sheriff's Office colors (tan fur and
green jacket). She is beloved by the public and the staff!

Several new Neighborhood Watch programs have started.
The two latest are the Little Basin/Old Big Basin Way Safe Streets Now program
and the Neighborhood Watch program of the 4 Acorn Drives in Boulder Creek. If
you are interested in joining either of these please contact the following
people: For Little Basin/Old Big Basin Way, call Bill Slay at 338-0322 and for
the Acorn area, contact the home owners association.
All SLV public schools faculty have been training in new
lockdown procedures in the event of an incident occurring on or near one of the
school campuses. The County Office of Education in conjunction with the
Sheriff's Office were pleased to present joint training for the schools.
